  1. Developer receives Certificate of Registration for Philippines' 45-MW Nalatang B hydropower project

The Philippines Department of Energy has issued a Certificate of Registration to the Aboitiz Power Corp., allowing for the pre-development of the 45-MW Nalatang B hydropower project. Aboitiz Power was selected to develop Nalatang B by state-owned PNOC Renewables Corp. with a contractual joint venture model. The project is expected to cost more than US$60 million, with completion scheduled for 2016. The run-of-river plant will be located on the Agno River near Kayaban. PNOC-RC, the renewable energy arm of the Philippine National Oil Co., called for joint venture partners for the development of five hydropower projects -- including Nalatang B -- last year. PNOC announced in 2010 that it intended to spend more than $335 million developing up to seven hydro projects that could have a cumulative output capacity of around 200 MW. HydroWorld.com reported this past August that the Philippines DOE had approved a renewable energy service contract with SN Aboitiz Power for the proposed 350-MW SNAP-Ifugao complex. Aboitiz already operates the  105-MW Ambuklao ,  125.8-MW Binga and  360-MW Magat  hydroelectric projects. For more news from Asia,  visit here .
