    21 Key Northeast Projects Put on Fast Track by Centre

    NEW DELHI, Aug. 29 -- The NDA government has put on fast track 21 key projects worth over '1 lakh crore in the northeast to give a push to development in the region. Most of these pending projects are related to hydropower, railways and transmission lines and as many as nine are in Arunachal Pradesh bordering China.The Project Monitoring Group (PMG) under the Cabinet Secretariat has prepared a list of all the important projects in the northeast pending in each of the ministries, and special emphasis is laid to clear them at the earliest. Of the 21 projects worth '1,00,151 crore, nine projects are from Arunachal Pradesh, seven from Assam,three from Tripura and one each from Meghalaya and Manipur.

    AMBITIOUS plans for first large community hydro scheme in North Wales will come a step closer next month with the launch of a share issue.

    If successful, building work on the £1.25m project in the Anafon valley, Gwynedd, could start as early as next spring.

    Enough energy will be generated by the two mile-long, 270kW hydro scheme to power the whole village of Abergryngregyn, near where it is based. Not only will the turbine give an annual income of £30,000-£40,000 for the next 40 years, it should yield other benefits for a village which has lost its shops, petrol station, pub and much of its social fabric.

    Speaking to media persons after the foundation stone laying ceremony of Common Sewage Treatment Plant (STP) in Rajbagh Srinagar, NC Working President Omar Abdullah said the State Government would not give a single Hydroelectric Power Project to NHPC without an agreement of a Joint Venture that would mandate the return of the project to the State after an agreed upon period of time.
