Professional Development and Education FAQs

I need to earn professional development hours to maintain my P.E. (professional engineer) license.  Do you know of ways I can earn hours?

PennWell’s Hydro Group offers a couple of avenues through which you can earn professional development hours (PDHs).

First, there is Power Generation University, a website designed to help power generation professionals meet their continuing education needs. The site offers courses on all aspects of power, with a separate section dedicated to hydropower.

Visitors to the site pay a flat rate to gain access to a specific course. They then review the course material, take a test on the secure website, and receive a certificate authorizing two PDHs per course completed.

For more information or to review the course offerings, visit www.powergenu.com. You also can link to this site through the HydroWorld.com home page. Just hover your pointer over the Home tab at left and a drop-down menu will appear with Power Generation University about midway down.

Second, attendees at many events organized by PennWell’s Power Group can earn PDHs. These events include HydroVision International in Nashville in July 2014 (www.hydroevent.com).

How can I find out more about events relevant to the hydropower industry, such as conferences, exhibitions and meetings?

In addition to the PennWell Corporation's own hydroelectric conferences and exhibitions (HydroVision International, HydroVision Russia, HydroVision Brasil and Hydrovision India), there are a number of events offered by trade organizations, equipment manufacturers, government agencies and others throughout the year.

HydroWorld.com offers a comprehensive calendar of hydro-related events, with links to event websites and other information.

The calendar is available on the home page of HydroWorld.com, or hover over the Home tab and click on "Events."
