PennWell’s Hydro Group offers many avenues to keep abreast of news and activities affecting hydroelectric power throughout the world.



Magazines – HydroWorld.com is the website for two magazines: Hydro Review and HRW-Hydro Review Worldwide. Hydro Review covers the North American hydroelectric industry, while HRW-Hydro Review Worldwide is global in nature.

HydroWorld Weekly E-Newsletter - We provide a FREE electronic newsletter each Tuesday. HydroWorld Weekly contains information the week’s top news, with links leading directly to the full stories on the website.

Hydro Headlines Video Newscast – On a weekly basis, the hydro team covers some of the top news stories in the Hydro Headlines Video Newscast. This can be found on the right side of the HydroWorld.com homepage and also in the HydroWorld Weekly E-Newsletter.



Hydro Review Mobile App – The Hydro Review Mobile app is the best resource for the latest Hydro industry news, analysis and product information, all at your fingertips on your iPhone or Android. The app offers the option to sort news by most viewed, save your favorite articles within the app, watch the newscast, share content with your friends via email or Twitter, review event floorplans, review sessions, and check out exhibitor profiles.

Waterpower Hydro Basics course - If you are new to hydropower or need to get up to speed quickly on this field, check out the Waterpower Hydro Basics course.

This two-day course, co-located with HydroVision International, is organized by the Hydro Training Institute. This institute is a group of people in the industry who realize there’s an urgent need to provide basic information about the various aspects of hydro to individuals who are new to the market.

Bookstore - PennWell offers an online bookstore with several resources on hydropower. Books include:

Hydro Library - here’s a resource on the HydroWorld.com site that you may not be aware of. The Hydro Library contains a variety of valuable reference documents. These include materials from the U.S. Department of Interior’s Bureau of Reclamation, U.S. Department of Homeland Security and Electric Power Research Institute.

The library is at www.hydroworld.com/index/hydro-library.html. To connect to the library, you can also hover your cursor over the Home tab on www.hydroworld.com and find it in the dropdown list.


I need some help with definitions of terms commonly used in conjunction with hydropower. Where can I find a “dictionary” of hydro terms?

The “Hydropower Glossary” is a great reference.

This booklet provides definitions of 300 terms commonly used in the hydroelectric industry. It’s a “must have” for all hydro professionals!

Where can I find information about companies offering services for hydropower project developers, operators and owners?

HydroWorld.com offers a comprehensive Buyers’ Guide that features more than 1,200 companies from around the world that supply products and services for the hydroelectric industry.

The online version of the Buyers’ Guide is available year-round at HydroWorld.com as listed under the “Home” tab, and includes a number of search functions to help users find exactly what they're looking for.

In addition, once a year, we publish an annual listing of companies and the products/services they provide in the magazines exclusively to subscribers. The Hydro Review annual Buyers’ Guide (published each January) focuses specifically on companies providing hydro products and services in the United States and Canada. The HRW-Hydro Review Worldwide annual Buyers’ Guide (published each May) lists companies providing hydro products and services in countries all over the world (with the exception of the United States and Canada).


What kind of businesses and organizations are included in the Buyers’ Guide?

With more than 1,200 companies currently listed in the Buyer's Guide, products and services offered range from actuators to zebra mussel removal to everything in between. These products and services are organized into eight broad category types:

Your company’s listing can be included online and in the relevant annual magazine versions free of charge.

I am looking for requests for proposals for services and products I can bid on? Can I find this information on HydroWorld.com?

We provide this information through a gated content service called HydroWorld Premium Content. For an annual fee, you are granted round-the-clock online access to tenders/requests for proposals (RFPs) from around the world via a password-protected section of the HydroWorld.com website.

How can I find out more about events relevant to the hydropower industry, such as conferences, exhibitions and meetings?

In addition to the PennWell Corporation's own hydroelectric conferences and exhibitions (HydroVision International, HydroVision Russia, HydroVision Brasil and HydroVision India), there are a number of events offered by trade organizations, equipment manufacturers, government agencies and others throughout the year.

HydroWorld.com offers a comprehensive calendar of hydro-related events, with links to event websites and other information.

Do the magazines Hydro Review and HRW-Hydro Review Worldwide have editorial boards?
