Government of Pakistan plans hydro project building campaign

Pakistan's Ministry of Water and Power recently announced plans to launch a hydro project construction campaign that would help the country strengthen its power supply capabilities.

Minister of Water and Power Raja Parvaiz Ashraf announced that as many as 32 small and medium hydroelectric projects will be constructed throughout the country to bridge the gap between supply and demand for electricity.

The minister of water and power said there is no proposal for construction of new dams on Swat and Panjkora rivers.

He said, however, Ministry of Water and Power has assigned the Munda Dam Project on the Swat River to WAPDA for detailed engineering design and construction which will be initiated after clearance from court cases.
