Panama developer commissions 10-MW Concepcion


Developer Istmus Hydro Power Corp. has commissioned its 10-MW Concepcion hydropower project on the Piedra River in Panama's Chiriqui Province.

Equipment supplier Mavel a.s. of the Czech Republic announced the commissioning 500 kilometers west of Panama City in the Chico River Basin. (HNN 12/6/07) Mavel said January 10 that Istmus Hydro contracted a consortium of ABB Inc. and Mavel to provide equipment and supervise installation and commissioning.

Mavel said it provided two Mavel FSH1050 horizontal Francis turbines, generators by Alconza of Spain, and hydraulic equipment. ABB provided electrical control systems, switchgear, and a substation.

The project has a maximum gross head of 65 meters and maximum flow of 20 cubic meters per second.
