U.S. to seek turbine seal rings for Hoover, Davis, Parker projects


The Bureau of Reclamation plans to seek bids for replacement turbine seal rings at the 2,078.8-MW Hoover, 255-MW Davis, and 120-MW Parker dam hydroelectric projects on the Colorado River.

A request for proposals is expected to be issued about Dec. 5, 2009, with bids to be due about Jan. 5, 2010.

BuRec has been performing modernization work for several years at Hoover in Arizona and Nevada, Davis in Arizona, and Parker in California. (HydroWorld 8/3/07) Most recently, the agency called for information on design and supply of replacement turbines at Hoover. (HydroWorld 11/7/09)

BuRec plans to seek new seal rings, ranging from 90 inches to 207 inches in diameter, to be installed on various-sized Francis turbines ranging up to 130 MW. Each task order is to be valued at between $5,000 and $200,000, with a total contract estimated at $5 million over five years.

A pre-solicitation notice may be obtained from the Federal Business Opportunities Internet site, www.fbo.gov, by entering Solicitation No. R10PS30001 in the "Keyword/Solicitation #" box. Bidders must register on the Central Contractor Registration Internet site, www.ccr.gov.
