Ecuador seeks studies of Tumbabiro project, including hydropower


QUITO, Ecuador 2/1/12 (PennWell) -- Ecuador's investment agency invites expressions of interest from consultants to perform feasibility studies of the Tumbabiro multi-purpose project, including study of hydropower generation. Responses are due February 13.

Instituto Nacional de Preinversion (INP) seeks studies of the technical, economic, social, and environmental feasibility of Tumbabiro, to include a dam and reservoir on the Pinan and Pantavi rivers 20 kilometers northwest of Ibarra in northern Ecuador.

Work would include pre-feasibility and feasibility studies for irrigation, drinking water, and hydroelectric generation. The consultant also would perform final design of the irrigation and drinking water components of the project.

The work is expected to require 15 months with a budget of US$1.9 million.

Expression of interest forms may be obtained from the INP Internet site at www.preinversion.gob.ec.

Expressions of interest are due by 3 p.m. February 13. INP plans to invite a short-list of firms to submit proposals.
