The Irrigation and Power Department of Pakistan's Punjab State plans to seek bids for civil and mechanical works and for consultants for rehabilitation and modernization of Jinnah Barrage on the Indus River.
A joint venture of MM Pakistan and Nippon Koei UK, a United Kingdom unit of Japan's Nippon Koei, was named in 2007 to design the refurbishment work. (HydroWorld 11/7/07) Punjab seeks barrages, spill channels, river training works, rehabilitation of barrage floors, and retrofitting of small hydropower plants at Islam Barrage and Jinnah Barrage. In a separate project, Pakistan's Water and Power Development Authority named MWH of the United States to provide construction management for the 96-MW Jinnah hydroelectric project. The Irrigation and Power Department plans to recruit firms for rehabilitation and modernization of Jinnah Barrage, improvement and modernization of irrigation and water management, monitoring and evaluation of social and environmental effects, and project management and technical assistance.
