Barra Clara mini hydro project gets green light from regulators


Brazil's utility sector regulator has authorized the start of commercial operations at the 1.54-MW Barra Clara mini hydro plant, according to a statement released by the regulator. 

The hydropower plant is operated by local power firm BC Service Energetica.

The Barra Clara mini hydro project is located in the southern state of Santa Catarina.

In other news, Brazil's 1,087-MW Estreito hydro plant will launch commercial operations earlier than expected, a spokesperson at the mines and energy ministry reported. (HydroWorld 3/1/10)
