Afghanistan seeks evaluation of 19 dam sites

Afghanistan's Ministry of Energy and Water invites expressions of interest in studies of 19 possible dam sites with a goal of designing two detailed sub-projects for development. Responses are due November 7, 2009.

The government received a grant from the World Bank's International Development Association for the Emergency Irrigation Rehabilitation Project. Water resources schemes being targeted are small to medium-sized dams of up to 30 meters tall, diversion works to supply irrigable areas, and other water resources infrastructure.

The ministry seeks assessment of 19 possible dam sites by pre-feasibility studies and multi-criteria analyses, preparation of seven feasibility studies of the best-ranked sites, and survey and detailed design of two sub-projects.

Expressions of interest and qualifications are due to the address below by 4 p.m. November 7.
