Resident engineer sought for 105-MW Meldahl on Ohio River

MWH, the owner's engineer for the 105-MW Meldahl hydroelectric project, seeks a resident engineer to supervise site work at the project being built at the Corps of Engineers' Captain Anthony Meldahl Locks and Dam on the Ohio River.

American Municipal Power signed a contract in March 2009 with Voith Hydro for supply of turbine-generators for Meldahl. (HydroWorld 3/17/09) AMP has an agreement with licensee Hamilton, Ohio, to become co-licensee of the project.

Meldahl (No. 12667) is to be built in Kentucky, on the south bank of the Ohio River. It will feature a powerhouse integral with the dam that contains three 35-MW horizontal Kaplan turbines with adjustable runner blades and wicket gates. Power will be transmitted through a five-mile, 138-kilovolt transmission line.

MWH seeks a resident engineer to serve as senior representative for the engineering firm at the project site. The resident engineer is to be responsible for coordination between the owner, contractor, and regulators. The engineer is to manage, direct, and coordinate MWH site staff during construction and start-up phases of the project.

Qualifications include a bachelor's degree in civil engineering and more than 15 years of engineering and construction experience on large civil works projects, preferably involving large fills and excavations, dewatering systems, cutoff walls, cofferdams, reinforced concrete construction, and powerhouse equipment installation. Prior experience with hydropower project construction is desirable.

Candidates are invited to submit resumes and inquiries to Bruce Phillips, MWH, E-mail: bruce.a.phillips@mwhglobal.com.
