Vale considers Belo Monte hydro project bid

Brazil's Vale SA mining firm and three partners said they may bid to build the Belo Monte hydro project in Brazil’s Amazon region.

Brazil’s environmental authority, Ibama, recently issued a preliminary license for the 11,200-MW Belo Monte hydro project, subject to a number of conditions covering environmental concerns and other issues. (HydroWorld 2/4/10)

Vale will analyze a joint bid with Andrade Gutierrez Participacoes SA, Neoenergia SA and a Votorantim Participacoes SA unit, according to a Brazilian regulatory filing.

The auction for Brazil's Belo Monte hydro plant will take place in April, a spokesperson for Brazil's mines and energy ministry reported.

The auction previously has faced delays which stemmed largely from difficulties in securing an environmental license for the project. (HydroWorld 11/19/09)
