Nile group to seek consultants for Kagera Basin including hydro

The Nile Basin Initiative (NBI) plans to recruit consultants to help develop the Kagera River Basin of Burundi, Rwanda, Tanzania, and Uganda, including hydropower.

NBI previously called for consultants to develop a Kagera River Basin Investment Strategy. (HydroWorld 10/20/08) In August, NBI’s Nile Equatorial Lakes Subsidiary Action Program (NELSAP) recruited consultants to develop communications and anti-corruption strategies for the proposed 61.5-MW Rusumo Falls hydroelectric project on the Kagera. (HydroWorld 8/7/09)

The Kagera Transboundary Integrated Water Resources Management Project is to promote investment opportunities through project preparation studies. It also is to support project management and coordination.

NELSAP plans to recruit consultants to develop a feasibility study of a multi-purpose storage reservoir including small hydropower development, water supply, and sanitation. Other services are to include a feasibility study of an agriculture development program and a study of an integrated watershed management program.
