Idaho preparing for new small hydro plant

HOMEDALE, Idaho 1/16/12 (PennWell) -- A new 1.27-MW hydroelectric plant is being planned for Idaho's Deer Flat canal, sources report.

The US$1.7 million Fargo Drop project is receiving nearly $580,000 from the Bureau of Reclamation through a water and energy efficiency grant.

Power generated from the hydropower facility will be sold to Idaho Power under a 20-year agreement, while sales of the electricity will benefit irrigation districts within the Boise Project Board of Control.

Parma, Idaho-based Riverside Inc. is constructing the plant. Completion is expected for August 2012.
