SANDVIKA, Norway 9/29/11 (PennWell) -- Norwegian consultant Norconsult AS awarded contracts to two Norwegian companies for construction and electro-mechanical equipment for the 5.6-MW Nye Folkedal hydroelectric project in Norway.

Norconsult took bids for the work in June. Nye Folkedal (New Folkedal) is to replace Hardanger Energi AS's 950-kW Folkedal project, which was built in 1939 and upgraded in 1962, on the Folkedal River in Hordaland County, Norway.

Spilde Entreprenor As of Voss, Norway, received a contract to restore the existing dam, build a new 900-meter tunnel and power station, and drill a 330-meter shaft. Although the contract value was not disclosed, Norconsult said four bidders made offers between 49.3 million and 56.3 million kroner (US$8.5 million and US$9.7 million).

AS Fadum Tekniske of Lier, Norway, received a contract to supply two Pelton turbines with synchronous generators, controls, two main stop valves, inlet pipes, a cooling water system, and electro-technical equipment for the dam. The contract also includes project management and administration, engineering design, procurement, installation, testing, and commissioning. Although the contract value was not disclosed, Norconsult said six bidders made offers between 11.2 million and 16.4 million kroner (US$1.9 million and US$2.8 million).
