Yukon's Mayo B hydropower expansion four months ahead of schedule


MAYO, Yukon Territory, Canada 12/14/11 (PennWell) -- The Yukon Energy Corporation's Mayo B hydroelectric project is well ahead of schedule and should be producing power before the end of the year, according to a release from equipment supplier ABB.

ABB is supplying two 5-MW Francis hydro units for Mayo B's new powerhouse and other hydro-related mechanical, electrical and automation equipment for the US$120 million expansion.

Yukon Energy is expanding the capacity of the project to 15 MW from 5 MW.

ABB is executing the projectais part of a strategic alliance with the Chongqing Yunhe Hydropower Group, which is providing the turbines and generators.
