Andritz Hydro awarded contract for 234-MW Foz Tua pumped-storage hydro facility

LIBSON, Portugal 11/30/11 (PennWell) – A consortium that includes Andritz Hydro has received an order to supply equipment for the 234-MW Foz Tua pumped-storage power station.

The pumped-storage plant will be built on the Tua River in northern Portugal as part of an Energias de Portugal (EDP) effort to increase power generation from renewable sources.

EDP sought bids for the Foz Tua project in June 2011 after winning a concession to build and operate this facility on the Tua River for 75 years.

The consortium includes Andritz Hydro, EFACEC Engenharia and SMM-Sociedade de Montagens Metalomecanicas. Equipment to be provided includes two 120-MW reversible pump-turbines, cylindrical gates, motor-generators, governors and control systems, hydromechanical equipment, and auxiliary systems, according to a press release.
