U.S. extends bid date for replacement turbines at 2,078-MW Hoover

BOULDER CITY, Nev., U.S. 1/11/10 (PennWell) --

The Bureau of Reclamation has extended the deadline for bids for design and supply of a replacement turbine, with an option to supply three more, at 2,078-MW Hoover Dam on the Colorado River in Arizona and Nevada. Bids now are due Feb. 8, 2010. 

Reclamation previously called for bids by Jan. 25. (HydroWorld 1/4/10) The agency began overhaul work on Hoover Dam turbines in 1998. Most recently, it said it plans to seek bids for replacement turbine seal rings at Hoover, 255-MW Davis, and 120-MW Parker dam hydroelectric projects on the Colorado. 

Reclamation plans to seek computational fluid dynamics, design, physical modeling, hydraulic turbine manufacturing, and supply of one turbine for Hoover Unit N8, including runner cones, coupling bolts, and design of a draft tube throat liner. It proposes an option for manufacture of three more turbines for Units A1, N5, and N6.

Estimated value of the contract is between $5 million and $20 million over four years.

A solicitation notice may be obtained from the Federal Business Opportunities Internet site, www.fbo.gov, by entering Solicitation No. R10PS30013 in the "Keyword/Solicitation #" box. Prospective bidders must register at the Central Contractor Registration database, www.ccr.gov.
