Kleinfelder has been named No. 39 in Engineering News-Record's 2014 Top 500 Design Firm rankings, making it one of the most profitable employee-owned engineering, architecture and science consulting firms in the United States.
The annual rankings list the 500 largest privately and publically-held consulting firms based on dollars billed during the previous year, the San Diego-based group said, with Kleinfelder reporting a total revenue of US$344.4 million.
Kleinfelder's revenue was good enough to jump three spots in the rankings from this past year, while the other 18 employee-owned companies in ENR's Top 40 averaged an increase of one spot.
"Kleinfelder achieved strong revenue and profit growth throughout 2013," president and XCEO Bill Siegel said. "This outperformance relative to other employee-owned firms speaks to the power of Kleinfelder's client portfolio, solid business plan, and international growth."
The company also moved up two places to No. 21 in ENR's "Pure Design" category for its innovative design work, while also moving up to No. 13 in the Hazardous Waste category.
HydroWorld.com reported Kleinfelder received the Gold Award for Social, Economic and Sustainable Development in February from the American Council of Engineering Companies, Washington Chapter for its work in redeveloping the Snoqualmie Falls hydropower project.
