Construction of 100-MW Gotsatlinskaya hydropower project 75% complete, RusHydro says

Work on the 100-MW Gotsatlinskaya hydropower plant is now 75% complete, Russian utility and project developer JSC RusHydro said.

RusHydro (LSE: HYDR) said concrete works at the intake and spillway are in progress, while construction of a mudslide protection trough and bridge are nearing completion.

Gotsatlinskaya's dam has a crest of 639 meters and a height of 68 meters. The dam is being constructed out of a shingle system earlier tested at the Boguchanskaya and Irganayskaya hydroelectric plants.

Power supplied by the plant will be generated by two 50 MW Francis turbines, both of which have been installed, RusHydro said.

The project is located on the Avarskoye River in Dagestan.

HydroWorld.com reported in October 2006 that UES hydropower subsidiary HydroOGK had allocated US$9 million to finance work on the project.
