Commercial operation has begun at Innergex Energy Inc.'s 17.5-MW Northwest Stave River hydropower plant, the Canadian power producer said.

Located on Crown land north of Mission, B.C., construction of the run-of-river hydroelectric project began in 2011 and was completed in December.

"We are pleased to have commissioned our 25th hydroelectric facility, reinforcing our leadership position among independent power producers in British Columbia," Innergex President and CEO Michel Letellier said. "This project was realized thanks to the support and collaboration of the Douglas and Kwantlen first nations, with whom we enjoy solid relations."

Energy generated by Northwest Stave will be supplied to BC Hydro under a 40-year fixed-price power purchase agreement that was obtained under British Columbia's 2008 Clean Power Call Request for Proposals.

HydroWorld.com reported that Innergex (TSX: INE) had closed a US$69.75 million non-recourse construction and term project financing deal for the plant in May 2013.

The Quebec-based company acquired the 40.6-MW Magpie hydropower project from the Hydromega Group this past July.
