The National Hydropower Association is now accepting nominations for its Past Presidents' Legacy Scholarship program.

The scholarship was established in 2008 with the hope of encouraging students to consider becoming part of the United States' hydroelectric power industry.

"Our growing industry has professionals in many different fields, including engineering, IT, biology, environmental sciences, forestry, hydrology, animal sciences, management, financial services, communications, and many other areas," NHA said. "Many companies also offer high-paying skilled labor and technical positions."

Applicants eligible for the US$2,500 scholarship include college sophomores or juniors who will be college juniors or seniors beginning Fall 2014, or graduate students with a minimum cumulative 3.0 grade point average on a 4.0 scale.

NHA said applicants must also be pursuing a program of study that is related to the hydropower industry, including engineering, sciences (biology, fisheries and hydrology), communications or environmental sciences.

The Past Presidents' Legacy Scholarship is funded by contributions from NHA, the Hydro Research Foundation, and other organizations and individuals in the hydroelectric field.

The award will be presented to the "young person who demonstrates the academic skills and commitment to help the next generation of leaders in the hydropower industry" during the National Hydropower Association Annual Conference in April.

The deadline for applying is February 15.
