Lignum Vitae installs new bearing at Alabama's Neely Henry hydropower plant

Lignum Vitae North America LLA has supplied a new water-lubricated main guide bearing for the 72.9-MW Neely Henry hydropower project in Alabama.

The Virginia-based company replaced the bearing on one of Neely Henry's 24.3 MW turbine units that is believed to have been in place since the hydroelectric plant was completed in 1966.

Neely Henry and its accompanying 57-foot-tall dam are located on the Coosa River near Gadsden, Ala.

HydroWorld.com reported this past July that the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission had relicensed Neely Henry and two other Alabama Power Co.-owned hydropower projects into the combined 960.9-MW Coosa River project.
