  • India approves three hydropower projects

    India Flag

India's Cabinet Committee on Investment has given the go-ahead for three hydropower projects that have been long been awaiting environmental approval, Asian sources have report.

Included in the committee's approvals are the 800-MW Tawang 2, 700-MW Tato 2, and 520-MW Teesta 4 hydroelectric plants.

HyroWorld.com reported that India's NHPC Ltd. had invited pre-qualifications for preliminary civil works associated with the Teesta 4 project in July 2012 before renewing invitations for both Teesta 4 and Tawang 2 in September 2013.

The solicitation followed the reversal of a requirement from India's Forest Advisory Committee in February 2013 that would have required cumulative impact assessments for several project proposals.

The Tawang 2 and Tato 2 will both be located in northern Arunachal Pradesh, while Teesta 4 will be located in Sikkim.
