The U.S. Department of Energy's Golden Field Office has sponsored a grant to the Hydro Research Foundation for establishing and presenting the Hydro Research Awards Program to graduate-level students.

HRF said each award will include a tuition balance, living stipend, professorial honorarium and participation in the Hydro Research Awards Roundtables.

Nominations for the award are being accepted now through March 5, 2014, with the recipients being announced May 1.

Information, research priorities and application materials are available online at HydroFoundation.org.

"The purpose of the program is to conduct focused research related to conventional and pumped-storage hydropower, and to attract student researchers to careers in hydropower," HRF said.

Awards will be given to between eight and 16 graduate-level students, the foundation said.

A DOE grant also helps support the Hydro Fellowship Program, which, since its inception, has supported 43 undergraduate students from 26 students across the United States.

"The foundation is grateful for the continuing support of the Department of Energy and the many strong relationships we have with various industry leaders," HRF Executive Director Deborah Linke said. "We are looking for an exciting new group of students entering our new research program next spring."

The National Hydropower Association also recently announced it is accepting nominations for its own awards program, the Past Presidents' Legacy Scholarship.
