The Vinacomin Power Holding Corporation has awarded a contract worth about US$26.6 million to Alstom and the Hydrochina Huadong Engineering Corporation for hydro turbines and electro-mechanical equipment at the 154-MW Dong Nai 5 hydroelectric project.

Alstom (ENX: ALO) said it will be responsible for designing, manufacturing, delivering and supervising the erection of two 77 MW turbine generators as well as related mechanical and electrical auxiliaries.

The turbines will be manufactured in Alstom's Global Technology Centre in Tianjin, China, which was also recently announced as the production site of parts for Vietnam's 1,200-MW Lai Chau hydro project.

The Dong Nai 5 hydroelectric complex will be located on the Dong Nai River between Vietnam's Dak Nong and Lam Dong provinces. Alstom said the $302 million project is part of Vietnam's Power Development Master Plan VII and will begin commercial operation in August 2015.
