Voith Hydro has been selected to modernize two Tractebel Energia hydroelectric facilities in Brazil, HydroWorld.com has learned.

Voith Hydro said the total value of the contracts is about US$196.56 million and includes work at the 1.42-MW Salto Santiago and 226-MW Passo Fundo hydropower projects.

Salto Santiago -- located in Saudade do Igucu in the state of Parana -- features four 355-MW Francis turbines. Voith said it will provide new runners for the turbines, new generator windings, electrical and mechanical parts, automation services and a refurbishment of the water intake system.

Meanwhile, Passo Fundo is located near Entre Rios do Sul in the state of Rio Grande do Sul. Voith's part in its refurbishment includes modernizations to two generating units, new generator windings, new automation systems, new governors and the refurbishment of spherical valves in the plant's penstocks.

Voith will also be responsible for the disassembly and assembly, and testing and commissioning of both the Salto Santiago and Passo Fundo complexes.
