CEAA requests public comment on Elizabeth Falls hydroelectric plant proposal

The Canadian Environmental Assessment Agency is soliciting public comment on a proposed 42-50 MW hydropower project at Elizabeth Falls on the Fond du Lac River in Saskatchewan.

The proposal is being made by the Black Lake First Nation and Saskatchewan Power Corporation and includes the construction and operation of Elizabeth Falls' water intake tunnel, powerhouse, switching station, tailrace, construction camp, bridge, access roads and a transmission line.

Public opinion is being sought as part of the Canadian Environmental Assessment Act, 2012 (CEAA 2012), which was enacted to support the Canadian government's Responsible Resource Development Initiative. The Canadian Environmental Assessment Agency will decide whether a federal assessment is required pending the feedback it receives from the public.

Written comments must be submitted by Feb. 4, 2013, to:

If a review is not deemed necessary after this round of comments, the public will still have three more opportunities to comment as per CEAA 2012's transparency and engagement stipulations.
