Albanian government approves construction of three new micro hydro projects

Albania's territorial regulation body has granted licenses for the construction of three small hydroelectric projects.

According to a government release, the list includes the 6-MW Stavec, 3.6-MW Strava and 400-kW Qafezeze micro hydro plants.

The Stavec hydroelectric scheme will cost US$4.8 million and be constructed by Stravaj Energy in Albania's Librazhd region.

Meanwhile, the $11.32 million Stavec will be developed by investment company Koka in the Bulqiza region, and the Qafezeze will be constructed by Caushi K. in Librazhd at a cost of about $500,000.

HydroWorld.com reported that the country's Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Consumer Protection recently solicited expressions of interest from consultants to supervise the rehabilitation and modernization of 14 Albanian dams.
