The British Hydropower Association has Simon Hamlyn as its new Chief Executive Officer, effective after current CEO David Williams retires Jan. 22, 2014.
Williams, who will remain as acting CEO until Simon takes over, has been with BHA for eight years.
"David Williams has left the BHA in a very strong position as a membership organization that is effective and well respected throughout the sector," Hamlyn said. "Everyone involved with hydropower should be grateful for the eight years of hard work that David has put in to ensure the continued strength and influence of the association."
Simon joins BHA after having served as the northern regional director of the Countryside Alliance, which is a British organization that promotes sports including hunting, shooting and angling.
The new CEO said his ambition is to continue growing BHA, while also emphasizing member interaction and public education.
"Simon, with the full support of the board and the members, now needs to lead the next stage in the evolution of the BHA," association chair Andy Billcliff said. "It will be an exciting and challenging time for us all, and Simon is well placed to deliver our aims and objectives for the future."
