FERC chair will join Stoel Rives LLP

Jon Wellinghoff

Jon Wellinghoff, Chair of the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission, will join energy law practice Stoel Rives LLP after leaving FERC, the Portland-based firm said.

Wellinghoff submitted his resignation to President Barack Obama in May, though he has agreed to a White House request that he continue serving as chair until a successor can be nominated and confirmed by the Senate.

Controversial nominee Ronald J. Binz looked poised to replace Wellinghoff, but he withdrew from consideration in September following a negative recommendation from the Senate Energy and Natural Resources Committee.
