DOE's Energy Information Administration closed due to government shutdown

The U.S. Department of Energy has shut down the Energy Information Administration, effective October 11, due to the lapse in appropriations caused by Congress's failure to pass a new federal budget.

EIA -- which is responsible for collecting, analyzing and distributing information for DOE -- said the release of all reports and data will cease during the government shutdown as a result.

"The EIA Information Center is closed," the agency said. "The release of all reports and data will cease during the shutdown."

According to EIA, "transactions submitted via the website might not be process until appropriations are enacted; databases might not be available; and we will not be able to respond to inquiries."

The agency encourages those who participate in its energy data collection program to continue submitting reports as normally scheduled, however, "to maintain continuity of the data". EIA notes that there will be no one present at its offices to answer questions or respond to technical issues, so those who experience difficulties are asked to hold their reports until EIA resumes operations.
