Corps awards contract for wire rope, crane work at John Day hydropower plant

John Day Dam

Knight Construction & Supply Inc. has won a US$293,171 contract to replace wire rope and perform load testing for an emergency intake crane at the 2,160-MW John Day hydropower plant.

The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers last sought bids for the work in August.

The Corps' Portland District has expressed interest in several rehabilitation projects at John Day in recent years -- first taking bids for turbine blade refurbishment in 2011, then awarding a contract to Skyward Construction in 2012 for elevator rehabilitation.

Meanwhile, Knight Construction was recently awarded another Corps contract for tainter gate rehabilitation at the 80-MW Green Peter hydropower plant.
