The use of unique UV technology called "Hydro Optic Disinfection" (HOD) has shown promising results in controlling zebra and quagga mussel populations on dams and hydroelectric power projects, according to a new white paper published by Atlantium Technologies.
The study -- available for free download via HydroWorld.com -- details Atlantium Technologies' use of its HOD MP-UV system to help control invasive aquatic species and biofouling.
Atlantium Technolgies said its HOD MP-UV system differs from many conventional chemical treatment options currently used in that it is environmentally-friendly, non-corrosive and does not require a National Pollutant Discharge Elimination System (NPDES) permit.
The white paper examines the results of an extensive study using Atlantium's system along the Lower Colorado River in 2012, showing HOD MP-UV's potential.
