The Ontario Waterpower Association (OWA) and Chiefs of Ontario (COO) are conducting a workshop for members of the hydroelectric power industry with a focus on mutual capacity building.

The workshop, called "Understanding Impact Benefit Agreements and Industry and First Nation Relationships", will be led by veteran negotiator Allen Edzerza and will feature insights provided by the industry, First Nations and government.

OWA said the curriculum is designed around the "IBA Community Toolkit -- Negotiation and Implementation of Impact and Benefit Agreements", which was commissioned by the Walter & Duncan Gordon Foundation in 2010 and is now being distributed by COO.

The group said it expects the workshop to be attended by representatives from the First Nations, hydro industry, government and non-government organizations.

The workshop takes place July 29-30 in Toronto. For more information, contact OWA Marketing and Events Coordinator Janelle Bates via telephone at 866-743-1500 (ext. 23), or visit the group's website here.
