Alstom announces US$260 million in new European, Asian contracts

Alstom has been awarded a number of contracts for projects in Turkey and Albania, the French hydroelectric power equipment manufacturer has announced.

The first is an award worth about US$132.6 million by Norwegian company Statkraft AS to supply six Francis turbine generator units for the 240-MW Devoll hydropower project. Also included in the order are hydraulic steelworks such as gates, penstocks, stop logs and trashracks. Alstom said the equipment will be primarily manufactured in its Spain and Turkey factories.

The project is being developed by Statkraft subsidiary Devoll Hydropower Sh.A (DHP) on the Devoll River in southern Albania. The project is the large-scale first public/private partnership in Albania and represents one of the largest hydropower investments in the Balkans, according to Alstom.

Meanwhile, Alstom has also secured contracts worth an additional $130 million for three hydropower projects in Turkey.

Included in the lot are the 292-MW Alpaslan 2, 636-MW Upper Kelekoy, and 72-MW Tepekisla.

The Alpaslan 2 project is owned by Enerjisa and is located on the Murat River. Alstom will install two 115 MW and two 31 MW vertical Francis turbines, in addition to main inlet valves, generators, generator step-up transformers, switchyard equipment and control systems.

The Upper Kelekoy project is being developed by a joint-venture between Cengiz and Ozaltin. Alstom is to supply one 30.6 MW vertical Francis turbine, switchyard equipment, transformers and control systems.

Last, Alstom said it will supply two 35 MW horizontal Kaplan turbines, main inlet valves, generators and a 4 MW horizontal Francis turbine for the Tepekisla project. The plant is owned by a subsidiary of Sanko Enerji.

HydroWorld.com also recently reported that Alstom had been awarded a contract for Quebec's La Romaine 3 hydropower plant.
