Sacyr expands to Peru with two new small hydropower projects

Infrastructure developer Sacyr has obtained a US$77.9 million contract from Generacion Andina to construct a pair of hydroelectric plants in Peru via its subsidiary, Sacyr Construccion.

The hydropower projects represent the Spanish company's first foray into Peru, where it will build the 8 de Agosto and El Carmen plants under an engineering, procurement and construction arrangement.

The 8 de Agosto will be located in Huanuco and will have an installed capacity of 19.83 MW. Sacyr said it is responsible for constructing a 3,243-meter-long conduction system, an 897.6-meter-long section of tunnel, and a diversion dam with mobile barrage and drain gate.

Meanwhile, the El Carmen will have an installed capacity of 8.6 MW.

HydroWorld.com reported in May that the Peruvian government was seeking consultants to study the country's small hydropower potential.
