Xcel Energy offering technical tour of Cabin Creek, Georgetown during HydroVision International 2013

HydroVision and Xcel

The world's largest hydroelectric power event offers attendees an opportunity to visit a pumped-storage hydropower plant, a small hydro project and museum all on the same exciting technical tour, but only for those who register by May 31.

The tour is being hosted by Xcel Energy and is one of four being offered during HydroVision International 2013, which takes place July 23-26 in Denver, Colo.

The tour includes stops at the 324-MW Cabin Creek pumped-storage project, the 1.4-MW Georgetown small hydro plant, and also the Georgetown Energy Museum.

The Cabin Creek pumped-storage complex was completed in 1967 and was recognized by Xcel Energy's predecessor, Public Service of Colorado, with its highest honor, the Edison Award, in recognition of its innovative technology.

Meanwhile, the Georgetown project began operation in 1906. This run-of-river facility is also home to the public Georgetown Energy Museum, which includes displays about hydroelectric generation and the plant's history.

The Xcel Energy Cabin Creek and Georgetown technical tour begins at 8:30 a.m. on July 23. The registration fee is US$125, which includes transportation and lunch.

Registration is limited to 80, and all participants must provide identification information in the form of driver's license information or a passport number when registering for security clearance purposes.

The deadline to register for the Xcel Energy Cabin Creek and Georgetown technical tour is May 31.
