Turboatom completes work at Kakohvka hydropower plant

Rehabilitation and upgrade work at the Ukraine's Kakhovka hydropower plant is now complete, according to hydroelectric equipment manufacturer Turboatom.

The Kakhovka (or Kahovka) powerhouse had been outfitted with six 57.2 MW hydro turbines, operator SpetsHydroEnergoMontazh said, which have been replaced by Turboatom with new units with similar output capacities.

Turboatom said the goal of the project was largely to improve the project's reliability and durability, however, as the previous units were put into service in 1956.

The Ukrainian manufacturer also replaced Kakhovka's turbine runners, upper and lower guide vane rings, and other components.
