NAES wins contract for hydro turbine installation

NAES Power Contractors has been selected to provide labor and supervision for the installation of three 5.3 MW hydro turbines for Alaska's Blue Lake hydroelectric plant expansion.

The work, awarded by Barnard Construction Company, Inc., will allow a newly constructed powerhouse at the Blue Lake Dam to provide a "significant increase" in the amount of hydro power generated in the City and Borough of Sitka.

HydroWorld.com reported in July 2012 that the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC) had authorized the Blue Lake expansion project, which will more than double the hydroelectric project's current installed capacity of 9.36 MW.

NAES said the project is scheduled to be complete and producing energy by mid-November 2014.

HydroWorld.com reported in February that NAES had been selected for similar work by the Kodiak Electric Association for work at the Terror Lake hydropower plant.

The Issaquah, Wash.-based company will be exhibiting at HydroVision International 2013 in Booth No. 543. HydroVision International 2013 runs July 23-26 at Denver's Colorado Convention Center.
