Low water levels could affect Vietnamese hydroelectric power producer EVN

Low water levels might soon make it difficult for utility Electricity of Viet Nam (EVN) to produce hydroelectric power, according to a recent report from Vietnam's Ministry of Industry and Trade (MoIT).

MoIT said the upstream levels of hydropower project reservoirs across the country is lower now than this time last year, though consumer demand for electricity has increased 11.3% over the same period.

The decreasing availability of water resources may force EVN to rely on oil for power generation in the upcoming dry months, the utility said, increasing the costs of energy for consumers.
