EBRD agrees to finance two Bosnian small hydropower projects

The European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) has approved a loan worth US$46.4 million for the construction of Bosnia's 20-MW Vranduk and expansion of the 9.4-MW Una Kostela hydropower plants.

Both projects are operated by state-owned utility Elektroprivreda BiH, which invited expressions of interest from contractors and suppliers for the two works earlier this month.

The EBRD said about $34 million of the financing will be used to build the Vranduk hydroelectric station, which is to be located on the Bosna River. Meanwhile, the remainder will be used to expand the Una Kostela to about 14.6 MW.
