AfDB finances Kholombidzo hydropower project feasibility study

Malawi Map

A US$2.04 million grant approved this week by the African Development Bank Group (AfDB) will allow developers to conduct feasibility studies for the Kholombidzo hydroelectric project.

The Kholombidzo project would help address electricity shortages within the country, AfDB said, and is consistent with the objectives of the Malawi Growth and Development Strategy II (MGDC II).

MGDS II is designed to build a long-term foundation for economic growth via an improved infrastructure and investment climate.

The Government of Malawi will also contribute $.23 million to the study's cost.
