  • SN Aboitiz earns OHSAS certification for work at Philippines' 105-MW Ambuklao hydroelectric complex

The Philippines' 105-MW Ambuklao hydropower plant has received a confirmation of certification standard from the Occupational Health and Safety Assessment Series (OHSAS) for successfully meeting a number of standards.

OHSAS' criteria for certification include areas such as risk assessment and management, legal compliance, documentation, training, operation and maintenance, emergency preparedness, and safety management for travel and transportation.

The Ambuklao hydroelectric project is owned by SN Aboitiz Power, which is a joint venture between Philippine power producer Aboitiz Power and Norway's Statkraft Norfund Power Invest.

The plant was purchased by SN Aboitiz as part of a US$325 million auction in 2007 after being shut down in 2000 due to silt problems.

Since then, SN Aboitiz has rehabilitated the project, commissioning it in November 2011 with an expanded capacity from its former 75 MW.

Ambuklao has also been recognized by the United Nations' Framework Convention on Climate Change as a Clean Development Mechanism project.
