Divers from Vancouver-based Northwest Underwater Construction have been working on the face of Oregon's Foster Dam in preparation for a new Oregon Department of Fish and Wildlife facility.
The underwater work is part of a project that will eventually see a new fish trap and haul facility built at the Foster Dam complex, which also includes a 40-MW powerhouse on the South Santiam River.
An official from project owner the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers' Portland District says Northwest Underwater Construction divers have cleaned trashracks and prepared a plan to cover water outlet pipes once construction begins.
The new system replaces the current one, which was built in 1968.
HydroWorld.com reported in August that the Corps' Portland District awarded a US$18.6 million contract to Natt McDougall Co. to oversee the project.
Construction is expected to be completed by March 2014.
