Sales from Mozambique's 2,040-MW Cahora Bassa hydroelectric plant are expected to increase by 4.4% in the next year, according to figures provided in the country's Economic and Social Plan for 2013.

Cahorra Bassa, located on the Zambezi River, will eventually be owned entirely by the Mozambique government. Currently, the state holds 92.5% of the hydropower project's interests, while Portuguese energy company Redes Energeticas Nacionais controls the remainder.

As per the report, South African utility Eskom is expected to increase its annual purchase from 10,318 GWh to 10,744 GWh.

Hidroelectrica de Cahora Bassa (HCB), which operates the facility, says Electricidade de Mocambique (EdM) will purchase an additional 3,458.8 GWh, while the Zimbabwe Electricity Supplier Authority (ZESA) will purchase 1,327.8 GWh.

ZESA's purchase would represent a 51.2% increase from 2012, while EdM's would mark a 5% increase.

Overall, HCB says it expects its exports to increase 9% from 2012 for a total of 13,691 GWh.
