Hydrokinetic energy developer Ocean Power Technologies Inc. has announced the election of Terence J. Cryan to the company's Board of Directors.

Cryan was elected at the company's Annual Meeting of Stockholders held October 4 after former board member Thomas J. Meaney announced his retirement, effective immediately.

Cryan is the co-founder and a managing director of Concert Energy Partners, which is a New York-based private equity investment firm focused on the alternative energy, power and natural resources industries.

"He brings strong experience from the energy sector and, importantly, has worked firsthand with organizations commercializing new, groundbreaking technology," says OPT Chief Executive Officer Charles F. Dunleavy.

HydroWorld.com reported earlier this month that an OPT project off the coast of Reedsport, Ore., had been delayed due to inclement weather.

The 1.5-MW project became the first hydrokinetic project to have received a license from the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission in September.
