The Andritz Group has received an order worth US$322 million to$390 million to supply electromechanical equipment for Laos' 1,285-MW Xayaburi hydropower plant on the lower Mekong River in Laos.
The $3.5 billion hydroelectric project is being developed by CH. Karchang Public Co. Ltd., which said in August that it expects to begin constructing a reservoir at the site by the end of the year.
As per the contract, Andritz will deliver seven 175-MW Kaplan turbines, one 68.8-MW Kaplan turbine, generators and governors, automation systems and other equipment.
Andritz says its experience supplying equipment for the Nam Theun 2 hydropower plant -- also located in Laos -- was a key factor in securing this award.
