  • Voith's York plant set to celebrate 135th anniversary

    09/14/2012

Voith Hydro's York facility is celebrating its 135th anniversary with a two-day celebration that begins Sunday, September 16.

Voith Hydro, a manufacturer of hydropower turbines and other generating equipment, says it can trace its lineage to manufacturers S. Morgan Smith and Allis-Chalmers -- both of which had their roots in the York area.

Sunday's event is intended for the more than 500 York-based employees and their families and will feature speeches from Voith Hydro personnel and elected officials, guided factory and laboratory tours, and entertainment for children.

Senior executives from Voith's German headquarters are expected to be present, as are New York Congressman Todd Platts and Governor Tom Corbett.

Monday's events include an employee service recognition, at which point Voith Hydro says it will celebrate the 1,585 total combined years of service of its more than 500 York-based employees.

HydroWorld.com reported in July that Voith Hydro's After Market Division had merged with Peak Hydro Services to form Voith Hydro Services.
